Massage – The Luxury Myth

It is not uncommon for people to see a physio, osteopath, or even a dentist. Yet if you were to tell your boss you had to take an extra ten minutes at lunch time for a massage appointment he or she would not be impressed. On the other hand if you had said you were off to the dentist your employer would be more than understanding. Same goes for when you are having a coffee with your friend and you say, “I have to run, massage appointment,” they would be green with envy.

It’s time to stop thinking of massage as a luxurious indulgence and the occasional or special treat. It is a necessary part of your overall physical health and emotional well being. And pay attention men, it is old fashioned to think pampering is just for the ladies.

A massage is one of the few places where you can truly turn off, flee the dark side of stress and escape from the rat race. Shucks I even have clients that start snoring on the table during a deep tissue therapy, elbows and all. I don’t consider it rude, in fact it’s a huge compliment as the 24/7 live wire plug has been pulled out from its busy, busy socket and the healing process has been amped up.

Did you know that supposedly 80-90 percent of all disease is stress and anxiety induced? Imagine if massage was like rice, the staple food of more than half the world’s population. Imagine if rub-downs were dished out like a prescription drug. Imagine if hands on manipulation was accepted as run of the mill health care. Can you imagine how much healthier our world would be albeit we may wander around like chilled out zombies if everyone received massages regularly!
