Hot Cold Stone Massage

As its name suggests, this massage uses hot/warm basalt stones alongside cooler/cold stones to enhance this therapy. Before you get the straight jacket out it’s not a crazy concept to use cooler/cold stones. Think about it…. when you have inflammation in the body do you put heat on it? No, you use cold, just like you would on a twisted swollen ankle. On a hot day do you want a hot water bottle or a cold bucket of water? Of course not, you want a cold bucket of water to put your feet and ankles in to calm those tankles down that that have swollen up like balloons. The crisp cool stones diffuse inflammation and swelling while the hot stones provide warmth and relaxation to soothe your muscles aches and pains. They are complimentary opposites.

If the mere thought of cold stones on your body make you want to clinch to be perfectly honestly most of the time my clients aren’t even aware when I use the cool stones. They are in such a deep dimension of relaxation they are unable to tell.

As a well trained and skilled hot cold stone massage therapist, after all I learnt from one of the best- Greg Morling, I will know where and when to use the combination of hot and cold stones. Sometimes I don’t even use cold stones at all.

It is said that stone massage has ‘the power of ten’: that one stroke with a stone is worth ten of the hands and that treatment is ten times more effective and deeper than manual massage. If you are a bit of a cry baby when it comes to deep tissue massages to release those deep seated knots this is the perfect kind of massage for you.

Warning: Once you have a stone massage there is no going back!

A combination of massage techniques are used; from gentle and relaxing, through to in-depth and intense – reflecting what you want from the experience.

Not suitable if: you are diabetic, have high blood pressure, ill, nerve trauma, pregnant, skin rashes, open lesions, skin infections, prone to blood clots, have had recent surgery or taking medications that have side effects to heat. It is important that you drink plenty of water before a hot/cold stone massage.
